During the online counselling sessions, if your client with bipolar disorder/depression has not been evaluated for medical management or is non-compliant with prescribed medication, you could recommend consultation with a psychiatrist.   The client could be advised to reach out to a psychiatrist seen previously, or to a psychiatrist offering online consultation in the current context. As the COVID-19 restrictions ease in various areas, out patient services health care facilities will be available in hospitals for an in-person consultation with a psychiatrist. Other options include mental health helplines set up by the government that might guide the client about next available steps. In case immediate care is needed due to an increase in symptoms or distress, 24/7 emergency services are available at various hospitals. You can discuss with the client, consider the urgency of the situation and help your client decide among the available options.
