How to support a child of 10 years as he lost his father to an accident in the lockdown.

It would be important to understand the relationship that this child shared with his father, while attempting to help him with the bereavement and the processing of grief. Facilitating and validating expression of thoughts and feelings, including mixed feelings, about the parental absence and life after the parental death could be done using stories and activities. Helping the child create a collection of memories that he would like to preserve and identifying ways of continuing communication with the father through pictures, notes, audio/ video recordings in keeping with the child’s developmental and emotional readiness may be useful. It is also essential to keep the other key adults in the family informed and involved in the process so that they may appropriately support the child.
