After validating her concerns it can be suggested to the hospital nurse to review factual information about the infection situation, specifically in her area and hospital. She can be advised to discuss with her colleagues and seniors regarding her concern and regarding the protective measures to minimize the risk of infection. Also, it can be advised to her to review the data on prognosis of the infection, which is good in most cases. Especially children, even if they get the infection, are unlikely to develop a serious illness. She is advised to discuss openly about the infection with her child in an age appropriate manner. Discuss with her that quitting in haste is not advisable and would not eliminate the risk of infection. In fact, it might lead to other worries. You can also suggest frequent supportive therapy sessions that would help in handling worry.
